WITS AT - Assistive Technologies
Many of America’s top organizations are involved in Social Responsibility initiatives and even write their mission statements to include phrases like “We will offer employees of all backgrounds a place to build careers”. Many companies recognize that the unemployment and underemployment rates for individuals with disabilities are well over 60%. They are challenged by the fact that even though their corporate HQ has all the right ADA approved ramps and signage for these individuals; it doesn't mean much if the technology used to run the core of their business processes can often be inaccessible to individuals with disabilities.
It is said Thomas Edison invented the phonograph not as an entertainment devise, but as a way to add quality to the lives of blind people. The Federal Government has set the national standards for making technology accessible through its 508 Compliance standards.
WITS AT was designed from the ground up to meet and exceed Section 508 requirements. The National Industries for the Blind (NIB) assisted us with testing and provided feedback so we could enhance the assistive technologies in WITS AT. Plus we have gone beyond the basic Section 508 requirements and included a built in Voice Navigation and Screen Reader, saving the client the expense of third party tools. Finally the client benefits by having one vendor to support their software.
The technology team at WINN Solutions is proud to have designed our industry leading web based item tracking so that many more people have the ability to perform mission critical tracking using WITS. We are equally proud of working with organizations such as The ServiceSource Foundation in order to foster sensitivity and support for individuals with disabilities in community life. At the heart of it, the tasks performed using WITS software are real and important jobs, and an excellent place for companies to look for possible career tracks for individuals with disabilities.
